Growing up, music has always played a massive role in my life. I remember the CD mixes my dad would make me. They featured anything from Oingo Boingo's "No One Lives Forever" to Madness' "Baggy Trousers". My family even had a brush with fame in our Rock Band career as "The Palindromes" featuring yours truly (aka Bob Summus) on drums, my mom (Anna Summus) on vocals, and my dad (Otto Summus) on guitar. My Spotify Wrapped is filled with anything from Marty Robbins to Little Simz.
When I started as a freshman in college, one thing I looked forward to most was joining the student-run radio station, Woo91. As a part of the radio station, you got to host an hour-long show each week where you could play whatever you wanted. Obviously, there were some exceptions. Mainly the "seven deadly words" which I won't repeat here but if you're curious, I'm sure they can be found with a quick Google search.
I built a new playlist each week to showcase whatever music was on my mind. On Monday afternoons, I hosted my show "Record Time" which had a pretty snazzy poster (featured above) designed by yours truly. I enjoyed finding new and interesting artists to share with my friends. It gave me a reason to test the boundaries of my music tastes and find artists I wouldn't normally listen to.
Since college has ended, I've missed curating those playlists and sharing that music. So, with this blog, I want to continue my show. My goal each week is to publish a new blog post and playlist of music for you guys. I'll write about some of the songs on the playlist, the theme, and the inspiration for that week's show. It's going to be an experiment but, I think it'll be fun. Without further ado, Let's dive into this week's show.
Record Time: "Whiskey, Wine, and Beer"

The inspiration for this week's playlist is my dad. Throughout my life, he has always loved country and Western music. When I was a kid growing up I couldn't stand the sound of it. But, as I've grown, I've learned to appreciate it more. Whether it's the older sounds of western swing found in Bob Wills' " Bubbles in My Beer" or the more metamodern sounds of country music Sturgill Simpson sings about in his "Life of Sin", I can't help but feel my feet bounce along with the rhythm. It's a genre of music that I grew up with and it always reminds me of my family. With this week's mix, I'd like to share it with you.
